National Catholic Schools Week

Monday, January 25th, 2016

National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. It starts the last Sunday in January and runs all week, which in 2016 is January 31 – February 6. The theme for 2016 is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.” The Academy of Our Lady of Mount Carmel will be hosting a variety of programs throughout the week, click on an image below for details on celebrations and events!

Beginning Monday, February 1 through Friday, February 5 the Academy will be open for tours from 9:00 am –1:00 pm. The best way to experience the Academy in action is to experience it yourself. There is no need to schedule an appointment during this week.

A National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and Middle States accredited institution, at OLMC we believe that excellence is not a destination but a commitment to an ongoing journey. The Academy offers more than just outstanding academics. It is here that students strengthen their faith through service and grow as young learners. It is here that students learn lessons that will last a lifetime.

From our innovative approach to the arts and variety of extracurricular and athletic programs to our groundbreaking hands-on science program, our goal at OLMC is to not only prepare students for high school, but for the rest of their lives. Below is just two of the many events happening this week!

On Tuesday, February 2nd at 9:00am in the Titus Room, the 5th grade will be honoring their “Special Persons of Faith.” This day provides the 5th grade with a unique opportunity to honor those people in their lives that help them in their faith development and/or act as role models such as godparents, aunts, uncles, family friends, etc. Often in our lives there are people who act as role models or mentors for us that we don’t often get to recognize and this day serves as a time for the 5th grade to do just that.

Thursday, February 4 there will be a presentation for Black History Month entitled “The Faces of Black History.” OLMC is once again proud to partner with Ronald McDonald charities and Irving Street Repertory to host this wonderful showcase. All grades are invited to this annual event that remembers and celebrates. The Faces of Black History acknowledges the contributions of African-Americans to America from slavery to the present. This live musical show salutes many well known celebrities, personalities and history makers in an entertaining and educational format for all ages. From Negro Spirituals to Rap music and everything in between, this talented four member cast takes the audience on a high energy excursion through African American Culture.
