This weekend’s Gospel Message Sunday, June 10th Mark 3:20-35

“A crowd seated around [Jesus] told him, ‘Your mother and your brothers and your sisters are outside asking for you.’ But he said to them in reply, ‘Who are my mother and my brothers?’ And looking around at those seated in the circle he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.’”

“As is typical, Jesus moves quickly through a growing crowd in today’s Gospel, rebuking those who misunderstand his power, warning those who blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, and redefining their understanding of family. When we act in accord with the Spirit, we show our kinship with Jesus, ‘for whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.’”
