This Week’s Gospel Message for Sunday, July 8th

Mark 6:1-6

“Jesus departed from there and came to his native place, accompanied by his disciples. When the Sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished…And they took offense at him. Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house.’…He was amazed at their lack of faith.”

“In Mark’s Gospel, faith is a prerequisite for healing. Jesus does not heal to make people believe; he heals those whose faith is strong. Our faith aids our receptivity to God’s grace. ”

“Creation is not a property, which we can rule over at will; or, even less, is the property of only a few: Creation is a gift, it is a wonderful gift that God has given us, so that we care for it and we use it for the benefit of all, always with great respect and gratitude.”
