Evening of Prayer and Penance

Thursday, August 30th, 2018

Fr. Dan invites all the faithful to an Evening of Penance and Prayer on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 7:30 PM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. There will be Eucharistic Adoration, Benediction, Prayer and Reflection. The Cardinal of the Archdiocese of Newark is inviting all the faithful of the Archdiocese of Newark to an Evening of Penance and Prayer on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 7:30 PM The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross at The Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart Newark, NJ, in reparation for and healing of all those impacted by the abuse crisis, particularly the victims, and all of us that make up the Body of Christ. The Cardinal is asking that participation in this Evening for all the priests and all the faithful of the Archdiocese take precedent over all other pastoral activities in the Archdiocese and is encouraging all to make it a day of fast and abstinence. We will also be holding the same at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. See fr. Dan’s personal invitation below:

Dear Brothers and Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel,

It is no accident that Cardinal Tobin has chosen Friday, September 14, the Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross, as the day for the Archdiocesan day of prayer and penance in reparation for the many sins and crimes of sexual abuse of children by our Church in recent decades.

Our Cardinal is inviting priests and people of the entire Archdiocese of Newark to an Evening of Penance and Prayer at the Cathedral in Newark at 7:30 PM this coming Friday. I urge you to consider participating. Fr. Emmett and I will be going to Newark and anyone who would like to join us or meet us there is most welcome.

In addition, our parish will hold a parallel service on the same theme at the same time in our church. Our newest Deacon, Anthony Armstrong, O.Carm., will lead the service of prayer and Benediction. Deacon Lex will offer a reflection and Andrea Covais will be present to lead the music.

I hope you will consider joining either one of these services. Our collective road to recovery and healing will be long. There is no way around the fact that we must journey to and through Calvary. Please join us in prayer and penance on Friday in any way that you can.

Sincerely yours in Christ and Our Lady of Mount Carmel,

fr. Dan
