Meet the Mission Team

Thursday, September 6th, 2018

Medical Mission team members are being interviewed for our parish bulletin. This week we feature Marie Sarubbi and Jessica Sarubbi for a look at how they are involved in OLMC’s first Medical Mission.

Why did you choose to be part of the Medical Mission team to Peru?

Marie: I always wanted to go on a medical mission, to help people that do not have access to medical care, and to appreciate, more fully, what we have in this country.

Jessica: As a nurse I have always wanted to go to another country and be a part of something to help those who don’t have access to the type of medical care we have here.

How are you helping the team prepare?

Marie: I haven’t been there as much as I would like, but I helped to make bags of lotion, soap, toothpaste and little incidentals for the people we will meet.

Jessica: The team has been working tirelessly to collect donations and make sure we have what we need to be prepared for this trip.

What would you say to parishioners who perhaps want to join a ministry but are a little hesitant?

Marie: Just do it!

Jessica: I would say that you won’t know until you try!

What are some of the challenges of preparing for a trip like this?

Marie: Making sure everything at home is settled, and not knowing exactly what I’m getting into!

Jessica: Not knowing the language is probably the biggest challenge and not knowing what to expect regarding environmental factors.

Is there a specific feeling, memory or story you want to share about the team’s preparation?

Marie: I have only made it to a few meetings, but everyone seems so helpful and excited to be going. I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Jessica: I have a very demanding job as a Pediatric ER nurse and have not been able to attend the meet ups, however, I am looking forward to making great memories with the team!
