This Week’s Gospel Message

Monday, July 1st, 2019

This Week’s Gospel Message for Sunday, July 7th  is from Luke 10:1-12, 17-20.

“At that time the Lord appointed seventy-two others whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. . .Into whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this household.’. . .The seventy-two returned rejoicing, and said, ‘Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of your name.’”

“Today we hear [Jesus] insist that [his disciples] merely move on if they are not welcomed. The disciples are to come in peace, offering peace, giving peace. Unlike money, which once spent is gone, the peace the disciples share can be given again and again, and if it is not received, it will return to them. Perhaps this is why Jesus specifically tells them to bring no money, but always offer peace.”
