“Sister Earth…”

Wednesday, November 11th, 2020

Pope Francis designated May 24, 2020 through May 24, 2021 as Laudato Sí Year to commemorate the fifth anniversary of his landmark encyclical on the care for our common home. The following is an excerpt from Laudato Sí and a reflection provided by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia.

Pope Francis’s Laudato Sí #53: Sister Earth, along with all the abandoned of our world, cries out, pleading that we take another course. Never have we so hurt and mistreated our common home as we have in the last two hundred years. Yet we are called to be instruments of God our Father, so that our planet might be what he desired when he created it and correspond with his plan for peace, beauty and fullness.

Reflection: For ten weeks we have been reflecting on Laudato Sí. How has God touched your heart as you reflected on the excerpts from the encyclical during this time? This week listen to the pleas of Sister Earth and consider how you can respond.

“As stewards of God’s creation, we are called to make the earth a beautiful garden for the human family.” —Pope Francis
