Third Sunday of Advent

Thursday, December 10th, 2020

During the four-week Advent season that begins the Church year we prepare for the coming of Jesus by remembering his birth (past), anticipating his coming in glory (future) and by celebrating his coming to us in word and sacrament (present). The Church has appointed scriptures for Advent that tell of God’s coming in Christ. The second and third Sundays focus on the coming of Christ today.

THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT – A TIME OF JOY

The Church reminds us today to be joyful!  This Sunday is called
“Rose Sunday”, considered the color of joy.
Today we use the phrase “looking through rose-colored glasses”
to describe someone who seems to see only the good.
It is possible to be joyful in the midst of Christmas hassle;
it is possible to be serenely joyful despite unfulfilled plans,
unaccomplished ” to do” lists, limited budgets, Christmas
tree lights that don’t light and sore feet?  It is God’s will that we be joyful?
REFLECTION:
Why should I be joyful? What is the difference between “having a good time” and being joyful? What is the relationship between joy and faith?
