This Week’s Gospel Message

Thursday, February 18th, 2021

This Week’s Gospel Message for Sunday, February 21st is from Mark 1:12-15.

“The Spirit drove Jesus out into the desert, and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan. He was among wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him. After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: ‘This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.’”

“Immediately after the Spirit descends upon Jesus when he is baptized, this same Spirit drives him into the desert to be tempted by Satan. Jesus withstands temptation, strengthening him for his ministry, which he begins by proclaiming, ‘This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.’ May we be strengthened over these forty days so that we might carry our crosses.” Source: Pastoral Patterns, Winter 2020-2021
