Reporting From Our Recent Trip
On Sunday, June 27th a group of eight teens and three chaperones left to attend Catholic Heart Work Camp in Dover, Delaware. In total there were 200 teens and chaperones, along with four priests and two deacons. As one of our teens put it, “CHWC was focused on volunteering and connecting with God. We had church and other religious programs, along with five hours of volunteering per day.”
We had four workdays (Monday to Thursday) with each group being assigned different jobs. OLMC was split into two work teams with Fr. Anthony and six teens and a chaperone being assigned to work in the central Food Bank of Delaware, sorting and repackaging over 22,000 pounds of assorted donations. Elliot Guerra and two of our teens were assigned to clear assorted junk from various rooms in the school where we were based, and to clean and paint those rooms.
Each day began with Mass, then the workday and then, after dinner there was an evening program 
with various activities including Adoration, a “Four Corners” prayer experience, and sharing from our worksite hosts of what our work has meant for them. Each evening the whole OLMC group met to reflect on our experiences of the highs and lows of the day. It was an energizing, though tiring, week and your prayers for us were MUCH appreciated. When we asked our teens to summarize their experience of the week, they said . . .
“CHWC turned out to be an amazing choice.
I was able to feel good because of the service I did
and also made friends. The camp felt like a good reset
for me and I’d go again next year.”
