OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL CHURCH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION OFFICE

APRIL, 2022

Dear Friends,

Sr. Regina Chassar, SSJ

As we move into the month of April, we begin to think about the great feast of Easter! But before we reach that celebration on Sunday, April 17th we have to move through Holy Week and events that took place in the Life of the Lord Jesus.

There is an adult solemnity about Holy Week and Easter that is difficult for children to grasp at a young age. Some children will not understand why Easter is a greater feast than Christmas. The birth of a baby is a close and immediate experience of joy, easy to relate to children. The experience of death and resurrection, however, requires a more mature faith. As parents and catechists, we need to prepare the children for this faith experience by sharing their own sense of life and joy and excitement of Easter. We are an “EASTER PEOPLE” an “ALLELUIA COMMUNITY.”

Easter is the beginning of the paschal season, all the reading from Easter Day liturgies provides stories for proclaiming, dramatizing retelling, and sharing. These treasures from scripture give us the “Good News” we have committed ourselves to sharing with all of God’s People. The music of Easter, the traditional hymns and alleluias help us join in the community’s celebration. The ALLELUIA returns, may we sing it with great joy at the RESURRECTION OF THE LORD!
