Lenten Penance Service CANCELLED

Thursday, March 5th, 2020

The parish communities of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Thérèse of Lisieux have cancelled our Lenten Parish Penance Service on Wednesday, March 18th at 7 PM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Examination of Conscience: Before we celebrate the Sacrament of Penance, we should prepare ourselves with an examination of conscience, which involves reflecting prayerfully on our thoughts, words and deeds in order to identify any sins. Our examination of conscience should be rooted in Scripture, particularly the Ten Commandments and Beatitudes.

Jesus gave us two commandments: “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.” In his Letter to the Corinthians St. Paul describes love as: “Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, [love] is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails” (1 Cor 13:4-8).
