This Week’s Gospel Message

Thursday, March 5th, 2020

This Week’s Gospel Message for Sunday, March 8th is from Matthew 17:1-9.

“Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them . . . While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.’ As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, ‘Do not tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.’”

“Jesus’ final line of today’s Gospel reads like a spoiler alert: ‘Do not tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.’ It is as if Peter, James, and John had seen an advance trailer that could ruin the ending for everyone else. . .Whether isolated in the wilderness or accompanied by friends on a mountaintop, Jesus remains faithful to the will of God.” Source:   Pastoral Patterns, Winter 2019-2020
