“Celebration of Life”

Thursday, March 4th, 2021

Pope Francis designated May 24, 2020 through May 24, 2021 as Laudato Si’ Year to commemorate the fifth anniversary of his landmark encyclical on the care for our common home. The following is an excerpt from Laudato Si’ and a reflection provided by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia.

Pope Francis’s Laudato Si’ #207: The Earth Charter asked us to leave behind a period of self-destruction and make a new start, but we have not as yet developed a universal awareness needed to achieve this. “Let ours be a time remembered for the awakening of a new reverence for life, the firm resolve to achieve sustainability, the quickening of the struggle for justice and peace, and the joyful celebration of life.”

Reflection: Pray for the grace to have a new reverence for life – not just human life, but all of life.

“Let us not leave in our wake a swath of destruction and death which will affect our own lives and those of future generations.” —Pope Francis
