Dear Friends,

Sr. Regina Chassar, SSJ

The month of May is dedicated to our Blessed Mother Mary in a special way. It is customary in the United States to honor Mary with special devotions during the course of this month. The Rosary, Novenas to Mary under various titles, celebrations are held to crown Mary Queen. These celebrations are called May crowning.

Mother’s Day, falls on the second Sunday of May. This  is a day on which Catholics remember not only their earthly mothers, but Mary, the Mother of all humankind.

During this month we celebrate Mary Mother of the Church on May 24th and the feast of the Visitation, on May 31st. The feast of the Visitation reminds us of Mary’s visit to her cousin, Elizabeth. In the prayer, the “Hail Mary,” we repeat Elizabeth’s words to Mary:

“BLESSED ARE YOU AMONG WOMEN AND BLESSED IS THE FRUIT OF YOUR WOMB.”

Our religious education program is coming to a close for this year and we pray that the remote learning during this pandemic year was rewarding for child and parents. As parents your child’s faith will continue to grow strong through these summer months in your prayer, play and service to others. As a family you can search out a community project where all members of the family can participate.

Below you can find a MOTHER’S DAY PRAYER. Pray for all Mothers as we celebrate Mary and all Mothers.

Blessings and prayers,

Sister Regina Chassar

Director of Religious Education

Mother’s Day Prayer

Loving God, through Your incarnation You took on human flesh and lived among us here on earth. We beseech You, as one who has experienced the gentle touch of a loving mother, to hear our prayers for all mothers.

On this Mother’s Day, we pray for our mother, who gave us birth, and to Mary our spiritual Mother who intercedes for us. May all mothers this day glory in the children as Mary did, and rejoice always in the Lord as she beseeches us to do.

Bless especially the Mothers of new born babies. May they always mirror Your love in the care and guidance they give. Bless the Mothers of teenagers. Give them wisdom and courage to lead their children to adulthood and mature Christian faith.

Grant that all mothers, especially as their children grow and leave the home for new lives, may find joy, peace and rest. May they know the joy of seeing their family prosper, and the grace of watching their families grow closer to God by living the message of the Gospel. We ask this in the name of Jesus our Lord and Savior.

Amen
