JULY 2021

Dear Friends,

Sr. Regina Chassar, SSJ

Summer is a time of vacation, fun and relaxation with family and friends. Since some of the restrictions have been lifted regarding Covid 19, families can make some plans. A favorite game that some plan among families is the SCAVENGER HUNT. The participants are given a great big brown bag and a varied list of unusual, funny, or hard to find items. At a given signal the hunt begins and each participant sets out to beat the clock-and all other participants. Maybe a SUMMER SCAVENGER HUNT will be a good outlet after spending so much time indoors. Make a plan and have some fun!

Re-registration letters and forms have been mailed to all families who had students in our program. New registrations can be made in the Religious Ed. Office or on the parish web page.

During the month of July, we celebrate many saints but we have one celebration that brings our parish family together and that is OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL. This year we celebrate on Friday, July 16th! Mount Carmel is the mystical pinnacle of the world, where the faithful have gathered since before Christ to hear the voice of Yahweh, the One-God. Located on the border of Samaria and Galilee, twenty miles from Nazareth. This place holds a holy history extending far beyond any other Marian devotional site. Tradition tells us that one Carmelite friar, St. Simon Stock, was in Aylesford, England, praying reverently to the Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, when suddenly Our Lady herself appeared to him. The Madonna held a brown scapular and with it promised, “This shall be a sign for you and for all Carmelites, whoever dies in this shall not suffer eternal fire.” The brown scapular became understood by the Church as a miniature religious habit of the Carmelite Order, a constant reminder of the Blessed Virgin’s presence.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL

O Most Holy Mary of Mount Carmel, pray for me, you watch over those who follow the Gospel of your Son with a mother’s loving care. Look now upon me and cover me with the embrace of your special protection. Strengthen me when I am weak, enlighten the darkness of my mind with your wisdom. Increase in me the virtues of faith, hope and charity. As you fulfilled all of our hopes and dreams as members of the Church. Help me now to show forth the love of Jesus in my life. O Mother of Carmel comfort and protect me all the days of my life. AMEN

Have a blessed and safe summer!
