Religious Education News

Dear Friends,

This past year has been a difficult one for everyone because of the pandemic and all the closures that took place. Our classes were held via remote learning and for the most part all went well. Of course, some students did not attend but we welcome all back for this year of Religious Education Classes.

Sr. Regina Chassar, SSJ

During the month of August we will be preparing for the opening of Religious Education Classes. With the vaccination process and many people being vaccinated the church has opened up many of the ministries that had previously been postponed because of the pandemic. ( Eucharistic minister, altar servers etc.)

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church is open for Mass everyday and weekend Masses. The Eucharist is a life-long and ongoing sacrament, a sign of unity and community, a bond for today and a remembrance of yesterday, a meal of thanksgiving and a pledge of future life. This sacrament, is the most frequent and public experience in the church.

Since Eucharist is the heart of Christian life, religious education programs must continue to foster growth, understanding and positive experiences of this sacrament. “The Eucharist crowns all the other Sacraments”. (St. Thomas Aquinas) Registration for Religious Education is now taking place for classes in the fall. Please register your child as soon as you can. This does not depend on payment being made at this time. Thank you

I have frequently mentioned ways to help children grow closer of Jesus. Here are a few you can practice over the remaining days of summer:

  • Read about Jesus- Scripture stories
  • Communicate with Jesus- Use different forms of prayer: the rosary, songs, reading from the bible, sitting quietly and think about Jesus, praying the prayers they already know. E.g., Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be to the Father etc.
  • Visit your Church- attend Mass on Sunday
  • Journal with Jesus- show the child how to write a letter to Jesus. Tell Jesus in their own words, what makes them happy or maybe something that is troubling them.
  • Look for Jesus- He is always present, offering his companionship and friendship in all that we do.

May the remaining summer days be blessed with sun and some relaxation!
