OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL CHURCH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM

Dear Parents,

Sr. Regina Chassar, SSJ

March 2nd is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Holy Season of Lent. Forty days of preparation for the great celebration of Easter. During this Liturgical season, we devote ourselves in a special way to the intimate relationship we want to have with God, and the healthy and holy life we want to share with one another. During Lent, the Church explicitly calls us to pray, to fast, and to give freely to those in need (almsgiving). During Lent we choose to prioritize what we know is of ultimate value: our faith in Jesus Christ.

We can help our children better understand the simple practices of prayer by inviting them to pray in any moment of the day. We can point out that just as our bodies get hungry for food, our souls get hungry for Jesus. Attending Sunday mass and receiving the Eucharist feeds us in some many ways. Jesus wants us to come to him in prayer and Communion.

As parents, you can engage your children by asking them to join with the church in the special giving we do at this time of the year. These 40 days give you and me the opportunity to help children celebrate the true meaning of Easter.

May this Lenten season be a time of preparing for the great Feast of Easter.

Blessings,

Sister Regina M. Chassar, ssj
