OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL CHURCH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION OFFICE
JULY 2022
Dear Friends,
The month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. During this past month of June, we celebrated Pentecost and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Our ninth grade Confirmation candidates received the Sacrament of Confirmation on June 8th and were blessed to have Bishop Saporito as the celebrant of that Sacrament. On June 29th we celebrated and honored SS. Peter and Paul.
Most people think about the harvest in autumn, especially around Thanksgiving. But the harvest begins in June. This is the time of year that the ‘amber waves of grain”—barley, wheat and oats -begin to ripen on the plains of North America and in the plains of Russia and the Ukraine, too.
The church celebrates the beginning of the harvest with the Solemnity of SS Peter and Paul—apostles, missionaries and martyrs on June 29th. These two saints are remembered together for beginning the “harvest of the church.” We all are part of that harvest. We are God’s grain. One way to remember and celebrate both apostles is to share a really special loaf of bread. Plan a family trip to watch those “amber waves of grain.”
When grain is ready to harvest, rain or wind or hail can easily ruin it. Say a prayer for all who help in “bringing in the sheaves.”
May these summer days be filled with gifts of barley, wheat and oats as well as the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Blessings,
Sister Regina Chassar, ssj
Director of Religious Education.
