Dear Friends,

This image reflects the theme for our Catechetical Year-2022- from the United States Bishops Conference. The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian Life. The term “Eucharist” originates from the Greek word eucharistia, meaning thanksgiving. During the celebration of the Eucharist, the bread and the wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit and the instrumentality of the priest. We often use the word Transubstantiation referring to the change that takes place when the priest says the words of Consecration.

The whole Christ is truly present—body, blood, soul, and divinity—under the appearances of bread and wine, the glorified Christ who rose from the dead. This is what the Church means when she speaks of the “Real Presence” of Christ in the Eucharist.

We will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 18, 2022. This is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of our Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Join us in blessing our parish catechists and all who spread the Gospel message to others.

May the Celebration of the Eucharist become a center-piece of your family life. Join in the celebration as often as possible, especially the Sunday celebration. Jesus loves us and gave his life for us so we in turn give praise and thanks for his gift of himself in the Eucharist.

Blessings and thanks,

Sister Regina M. Chassar, ssj
