Dear Friends,

Sr. Regina Chassar, SSJ

The liturgical season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22. During this liturgical season , we devote ourselves in a very special way to our relationship with God and the healthy and holy life we want to share with one another.

During this holy season the Church calls us to pray, to fast and to give freely to those who are in need (almsgiving).   This is a time to prioritize what we know is of ultimate value: our faith in Jesus Christ.

Throughout this Lenten season, the 40 days of Lent, we try to walk closer with Jesus. We can all help children to better understand the simple practices of prayer by inviting them to pray in any moment throughout the day. We can point out that just as our bodies get hungry for food, our souls get hungry for Jesus. We can model almsgiving for our children by asking them to join with us in some special giving at this time of year.

These 40 days of Lent give us all the opportunity to prepare our hearts to celebrate the true meaning of Easter.

Together, we can have a meaningful Lent.

Sister Regina M. Chassar, ssj.
