This Week’s Gospel Message

Thursday, April 13th, 2023

This week’s Gospel message for Sunday, April 16th is from John 20:19-31.

“Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.’ Thomas answered and said to him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.’”

Reflection: “John wrote that the first thing Jesus did after greeting the apostles was show them his hands and his side. He showed them his wounds. Not only did that prove that he really was the Lord, it also showed them that the wounds had a real and lasting effect on his body. When Jesus showed them his hands and his side, he was not reminding them of what they had left him to go through alone. He was giving them a share in his triumph over sin and death.” SOURCE: Pastoral Patterns, Summer 2023
