This Week’s Gospel Message

Friday, May 12th, 2023

This week’s Gospel message for Sunday, May 14th is John 14:15-21

“Jesus said to his disciples: ‘If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows him. But you know him, because he remains with you, and will be in you. . .Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.’”

Reflection: “‘If you love me, you will keep my commandments,’ Jesus told his disciples. Taken one way, it may seem quite demanding, but it was really the equivalent of saying, ‘If you love me, you will want to keep my commandments.’ Think about someone you love dearly—your spouse, your significant other, your parent, your child. Do you not want to do what they ask? You want to please them, you want to bring them joy. Assuming that they are sincere and not demanding or unreasonable, you want to do what they ask. Love of God brings us a desire to do God’s will, to do what God asks of us.” SOURCE: Pastoral Patterns, Summer 2023
