Dear Parents and friends,

The holy season of Lent begins on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. On that day, we begin a
season within the liturgical year of doing special forms of charity and being especially generous
(almsgiving); of being more conscientious about prayer; and of fasting. During Lent, our
relationship with the Lord Jesus grows stronger as we prepare to celebrate the joy of the
Resurrection of the Lord.
We don’t often think about preparing for the Lenten season. Yet, preparing for something is one
way to ensure that we get the most out of the preparation. Talk about the season of Lent within
the family. Discuss the things you might do as a family during Lent. We talk about these things
in our religious education classes. Perhaps you could gather throughout the season of Lent and
share moments of generosity, prayer and fasting . These 40 days of Lent give us the opportunity
to help our children celebrate the true meaning of Easter.
We pray:
Loving God, you give us these days of Lent to prepare for the Resurrection. For 40 days we
pray, fast and sacrifice so that we are ready to celebrate. Help me to give these days to you so
that I grow closer to You and to Your Son. Please give me the wisdom to know how to live out
this time. AMEN
May our Lenten Journey be filled with time for Prayer and Reflection.
