DONATE NOW In keeping with the Carmelite virtues of community and service, the Medical Mission team from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (Tenafly, NJ) will return to Yamaranguila, Intibuca, Honduras in February of 2025. With the support of the Carmelite Parish of St. Lucy in Yamaranguila, we aim to provide medical care, health education, and basic hygienic supplies to approximately 1,500 men, women and children.
We are currently planning a return to Honduras the first week of February 2025. Each trip strengthens our understanding of the needs of the communities we serve.
We visit indigent communities where many are laborers. Most never see a doctor or have to walk miles over hilly terrain for access to medical care. Our volunteer team of doctors specializing in pediatrics, gynecology, internal medicine, orthopedics, and physical therapy are assisted by a team of nurses and translators. After assessing each patient, we provide necessary medications and work closely with a local Honduran doctor to assure follow-up care if necessary. For care of common medical conditions instructional handouts are provided.
Volunteers pay their own airfare and accommodations. We are asking for donations to cover the cost of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical supplies as well as the personal care kits we distribute to each client.
After two previous missions with the Carmelites in Peru, this is the second mission to Honduras. Each trip increases our understanding of the needs in these regions and strengthens our desire to help. Please support us in our service to the people of Yamaranguila and the surrounding areas.
